I was born in Cheltenham where I still live with my husband, a Jack Russell dog called Pancake and a rabbit. My father was a Polish Catholic who came to England in 1942, having escaped a prisoner-of-war camp in Russia and joined the British Air Force. He married my Romanian Jewish mother who had fled here from Austria to escape the Nazis just before the Second World War. For some reason, I was sent to a Convent School, which was unsurprisingly quite confusing! Having left school with reasonable O levels and rubbish A levels followed by an Art College Foundation year and a most enjoyable certificate in Fashion Writing from the London College of Fashion, I decided to finally get a job. After what we shall politely call a number of try-outs I took a job with a publishing company, married Russell in 1983 and worked until I was expecting my first child. Once our children (we have two boys) were at school I returned to work as a part-time proof-reader, went back into publishing for a bit and finally ended up as a web project manager until 2010. Our two gorgeous sons are both married, so we now have two gorgeous daughters-in-law and an amazing granddaughter called Scarlett, born July 2014. In the middle of this career ‘frenzy’, I decided to return to being a student – it was like I’d never left – and embarked on a degree with the Open University. It took me seven years but I finally graduated in 2010 with a BA Hons in Humanities with amongst other things, Literature and Creative Writing. As well as writing features for various magazines I have published a collection of short stories for Kindle called An Irrational Fear of Dogs and am about to publish a 20,000 word ghost story, as yet untitled. With some gentle persuasion from my theatrical family I recently rekindled my love of acting – and I use the term loosely - and took part in an ensemble piece called Carried on the Wind about the 1st World War which was performed at the Guildhall in Gloucester in November 2014. It was a devised piece which meant we all played a part in how it took shape and it was an amazing, if terrifying, experience. In July 2012 my husband started losing his eyesight and seeing double and was diagnosed with a pituitary brain tumour. Luckily it was benign and was successfully removed at Frenchay Hospital. He now takes masses of hormone tablets to replace those made by the pituitary gland but it has left him with no sense of smell and therefore he can virtually taste nothing. The day he was diagnosed, our lives were changed forever. After two and a half years we have learned to adjust and basically live with it. I say we because it affected us both in different ways. But we can’t complain - we love to travel – though since Russell’s illness we cannot be very adventurous – but we adore Malta and have lots of mini staycations here in the UK usually in the Gower, South London where our youngest son lives or around the South Coast.
Danielle lives in Bishops Cleeve with her husband and baby girl Scarlett in their home, dubbed, 'The Enthusiasm Emporium' due to the eclectic list of work and hobby activities that take place in their not so ordinary lives! She is primarily a writer but also works with her husband Tom running The Action Emporium and associated theatre company Tatterdemalion, as well as being a part time superhero 'The Girl Geek' with her baby side kick Mini Pea the Scarlett Ladey'. Danielle has many passions in her life, loving activities ranging from adventurous cooking (that doesn't always work quite as planned!), Xbox and board gaming, travelling and taking part in charity sporting events. As Danielle and Tom travel a lot for work, although she tries her best, her organisational skills (and baby brain!) have meant she has had to develop creative skills for the numerous times she forgets things; her notebook, shower gel, or on one particular occasion found herself with two fully stocked handbags but no pairs of trousers! Despite this, Danielle is always up for a new adventures. She left school half way through her last year due to newly diagnosed epilepsy, and did her A-Levels and subsequent degrees by home learning and this 'doing things her own (slightly random) way' form of lifestyle set a precedent for pretty much everything she does! She is often accused of not being particularly sensible, and Tom will often come home to a random theme night dinner based on a random celebrities birthday, an odd national day or just something that happens to takes her fancy on the day. This is regularly accompanied by a homemade quiz with makeshift prize! If she could live in any time period, Danielle would choose Hercule Poirot's 1930's, and her beloved Churchill tea set and vast array of different teas highlights her passion for decadence. Her love of tea is also the origin of her steampunk persona Ladey Grey. If not drinking tea, she would rather only drink out of a champagne flute, and on their honeymoon, Danielle and Tom had twin clawfoot baths and it is her aim to one day have a bathroom fancy enough with the same so they can soak luxuriously with a glass of bubbly at least three times a week! Danielle has a collection of poetry, a children's story and half a novel, all waiting to be published when she finally gets round to sorting them all. In 2015, amongst many other things, Danielle is; working on an antibullying campaign, taking part in a six hour Danceathon for Comic Relief, producing a Halloween musical, holidaying in Portugal, finishing aforementioned novel and hosting an awesome Eurovision Song Contest party. Danielle fully believes that life is too short to attempt to be fashionable, everything happens for a reason and that it doesn't matter if you don't understand the plot of your life as long as you surround yourself with the most fabulous cast. And most importantly, Danielle hopes in her life to bring a little bit of magic to her husband and daughters every day, and to inspire Scarlett to live a life full of laughter and passion.
